A bunch of years ago I wrote a post on my blog called ‘Why I don’t Celebrate New Year’s’. It was not a negative post. It was simply intended to describe what I actually do do on New Year’s instead of going out and partying.

Well, unbeknownst to me, that post had at least one effect that was extremely positive for someone! It was someone I’d never met nor have spoken to since. He came up to me at a trade show months later and made a point of telling me about it. Apparently he had been very down on what the next year would hold and was seriously contemplating not being there for it. But when he read my post, he decided that instead of looking forward with trepidation he would look back, and count up his wins and successes over the previous year and use those to Power himself into the new year…

He quite literally decided not to take his life after reading my post!

Now that post is gone unfortunately, but I again find myself contemplating New Year’s, and why I do it differently than most.

A friend reminded me recently that one of the great things about New Year’s Eve is getting all dressed up and meeting with friends, but my focus on New Year’s will always be the previous year. What did I get done? What did I accomplish? What things did I do that I can take pride in. What have I left undone that needs finishing and may be more importantly what have I left undone that well doesn’t need finishing? What did I do that made the world a better place for others.?

So, as we go into this new year, I have only one wish for everyone. I hope that you look far beyond yourself, beyond your personal wish list beyond your personal goals. And while I hope that last year you did accomplish one thing that made the world a better place and for next year I hope you can accomplish at least one more thing that makes the world a better place. I hope we all do.! 🥰

In hindsite, I have decided that my post was perhaps incorrectly named way back then. It seems I do celebrate New Year’s. But I definitely do it differently than many seem to!

However you see it… Happy New Year!
